Our proprietary algorithm evaluates every address across three weighted pillars: domain reputation, mailbox status, and spam trap probability. Each pillar is normalized and combined into a single actionable metric.
Domain Reputation (40%)
Analyzes SPF, DKIM, DMARC alignment, historical bounce rates, and third-party blacklist presence. Domains like acme-corp.io with consistent authentication and low complaint rates score 85–100.
Mailbox Status (35%)
Verifies MX records, SMTP handshakes, and postmaster catch-alls. Active inboxes with proper quota limits and no greylisting flags receive top marks. Suspended or disabled accounts drop to 0–30.
Spam Trap Probability (25%)
Cross-references known honeypot databases, role-based address patterns, and inactivity decay models. Addresses flagged as high-risk or recycled domains are automatically penalized to protect sender IP reputation.
Why the Score Matters for Your Campaigns
A single low-scoring address can trigger ISP throttling, increase bounce metrics, and permanently damage your sender domain standing. VeriMail’s scoring system lets you filter, segment, and prioritize lists before they hit your ESP.
Accounts scoring 90–100 typically achieve 98.4%+ inbox placement on Gmail and Outlook. Scores between 70–89 indicate deliverable addresses that may require dedicated sending IPs or warm-up sequences. Anything below 70 should be quarantined for verification or removal to prevent ESP penalty thresholds from being breached.
Bounce Rate Reduction
Clients using score-based filtering report a 94% drop in hard bounces within the first 30 days. ISP complaint rates fall alongside bounce metrics, preserving domain trust.
ESP Compliance Alignment
Major providers like SendGrid, Mailgun, and Amazon SES penalize campaigns with bounce rates above 5%. VeriMail’s thresholds keep you safely under 2.1% on average.
Dynamic List Segmentation
Export scored lists directly into your CRM or marketing automation platform. Tag high-scoring contacts for promotional blasts and route mid-scoring leads to re-engagement workflows.
How NexusRetail Increased Inbox Placement by 31%
NexusRetail, a mid-market e-commerce brand processing 1.2M monthly transactional and marketing emails, struggled with rising bounce rates and declining open metrics after acquiring three legacy customer databases.
By integrating VeriMail’s Deliverability Scoring API into their list hygiene pipeline, the team audited 840,000 records in 14 minutes. The algorithm flagged 112,000 addresses scoring below 65, including 34,000 high-probability spam traps and 28,000 decommissioned corporate domains. After purging low-scoring contacts and routing the remaining 728,000 addresses through a staged warm-up sequence, NexusRetail saw a 31% lift in Gmail inbox placement, a 22% increase in click-through rates, and zero ESP suspension warnings over a 90-day period.
“Before VeriMail, we were guessing which lists would bounce. Now we deploy campaigns with exact confidence intervals. The scoring breakdown alone saved us $18,400 in wasted ESP credits last quarter.” — Marcus Thorne, Director of Marketing Operations at NexusRetail
